As a freelancer, I was asked to layout an internal newsletter for Boeing that was a co-op with WebMd. The designer who usually handled these was busy, and they needed someone else to step in and help, so they hired me.

The styles, colors, and some of the more templated parts of the layout were set based on the brand guidelines. However, all of the content on each page needed to be laid out using provided plain text and in most cases graphics and images needed to be chosen from stock and incorporated.

I laid out each individual page and communicated directly with Boeing to work through the rounds of edits. These are the final newsletters that ran internally in March and April of 2016.

Rain Perry asked me to create a layout for the CD case and disc of her album Let’s Be Brave. I also worked on some promotional materials for the album. I designed her one-sheet and then did some illustration and layout work for some tee-shirts and a poster.

Kim Maxwell runs a storytelling workshop in Southern California. In the summer of 2019, she organized a storytelling retreat in a beautiful castle villa in Italy, but she was promoting it with a text document.

She came to me to put together a bright and colorful brochure that she could use to promote the retreat in style, and so I designed and laid out her information with photos of the beautiful Italian town.

This is a project for a documentary film about music. The film was written, directed, and produced by singer-songwriter Rain Perry. The project included a logo design for the film, a second logo design for Rain's new production company, a poster, a DVD cover, and some other miscellaneous promotional materials.

Savannah asked me to make a print book version of her digital portfolio to hand out on interviews. This is the resulting book.

The goal was to give it a kind of 1970s retro flair, using record sleeve designs from the time period as the inspiration.

I was asked to help develop the brand and materials for a local food even hosted by Discover Portland (now Portland Uncovered) - including signage, the event program, and a menu.

3 Seasons Oregon is a special section I helped develop that ran in two of the magazines published by Mediamerica: Oregon Business and Oregon Home. It was a partnership with our travel division that allowed us to sell editorial space for trade in order to acquire gift certificates to use for enewsletter sign-up campaigns.

I did the layout for the section and designed the logo and branding.

I built these sales demos during my time working for Brandefined. Their purposes was to serve as interactive web apps that sales teams could use as a guided introduction to our company’s products. They were laid out in Illustrator and then built into HTML and CSS webpages using Dreamweaver. The text has been replaced with dummy text in order to protect the comanys’ IP.

This is a poster for a documentary film by Kelly Kend. The illustrations are by Lucy Bellwood.

This is a children book illustrated by artist Lucy Bellwood. Her clients tried to do the layout themselves, but once Lucy saw it, she recommended me immediately. I took over and laid out the text for the entire book. Select pages are below.

These are some web banners and a print ad for an event series for which I handled the branding. My goal was to make the series stand out using custom vector illustrations while staying in line with the branding of Oregon Business Magazine.

(The series was already in existence when I took it over, so I did not create the logo.)

This is a logo design I did for myself for a gaming blog I considered starting before I decided to just put my blog on this site.

I designed this full page print for Pearl Specialty without much art direction. It turns out what they had in mind was something more cookie-cutter, but I liked this original concept as an example of my ability to design magazine ads.

I was hired to create a retro-style textbook cover design that would be used as promotion for a film that was part of the Hump! film festival. I partnered with Lucy Bellwood, who completed the illustration portion. 
I designed the rest. 

Mediamerica runs a deals site that, when I started, hadn't been updated in years. I created a fresh logo and a fresh brand identity for the product. Below are the logo and some advertisements I have created since I took the project over

I was hired to restore an old bike logo for a client who was restoring the bike itself. He wanted a very specific version of the logo, but the bike in question was rare, and the photos were very limited, which means I didn't have much to work with. The final result is below along with the few reference photos I had.

At Brandefined, I produced Facebook page cover banner designs for a variety of different types of clients. This was in an era of Facebook with a slightly different layout from now. Even though these no longer fit Facebook’s specs, they are still great examples of web banners for small business.
